Dear The Real Singapore,
I saw a Malaysian-registered car following a local car very closely, and driving swiftly into a carpark before the barrier could be lowered.
The incident took place at 7.24pm yesterday (Feb 20), near block 179, Toa Payoh Central.
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw a Malaysian-registered car evading parking fees. I witnessed the incident as I was about to cross the road.
I whipped out my mobile phone to snap the car plate number, but the car was driven away swiftly so I only captured the car body.
My wife has seen similar incidents happen several times at the same carpark, but he had to see it for himself to believe it.
He describes the tactic used by the driver of the Malaysian-registered car:
The driver of the Malaysia-registered car tailgates a Singapore-registered car (can be any car) very closely when approaching the parking barrier.
While the first car is passing through as the barrier is raised, the Malaysia-registered car would quickly charge forward so the barrier sensor would detect the second car as an obstacle and allow it to pass.
