Dear The Real Singapore,
We are born and bred in Singapore and have long lived under the largely false impression that we have racial and religious harmony. I belong to a racial group that has long been exposed to racial abuse online and I have grown up in this country bearing the brunt of racist jokes and preferential treatment.
But this one really took the cake.
My wife and I are in the midst of looking for an apartment to rent and stay.
It has been challenging as we have a puppy with us. We approached this particular property agent regarding this following advertisement on a local property search website
After asking the usual questions, the property agent asked if we are muslim. I was horrified as to why a landlord would even bother with a question like that. After a quick exchange, it was made known to us that the landlord prefers a christian tenant.
We wish property agents had some conscience and decency to stand up and perhaps reject clients who display such shallow mindset and behaviour.
We are not muslims but...
Is this the multicultural and multiracial society that many blindly defend?
You judge for yourself.
