A Caucasian man who uses demeaning and offensive tactics to force women into having sex with him and his group has a petition drawn up against him to ban him from entering Singapore.
“Julien Blanc and his group, RSD (Real Social Dynamics) are a group of sexist and racist "pick up artists," who have made a living by teaching men how to violate women through physical and emotional abuse,” Charis Mah, the convenor of the petition said.
The petition on the change.org website has received more than 1,500 signatures at the time of writing. It was started two days ago.
“Julien gives seminars on how to pick up women using a variety of highly abusive techniques, such as economic abuse, isolation, coercion and threats, intimidation, emotional abuse, and "male privilege".”
Miss Mah also detailed “one of Julien's "coaching" videos, "White Male F**ks Asian Women InTokyo (And The Beautiful Methods To It)", which said:
"At least in Tokyo, if you're a white male, you can do what you want. I'm just romping through the streets, just grabbing girls' heads, just like, head, pfft on the dick. Head, on the dick, yelling, 'pikachu,' with a pikachu shirt."
Miss Mah has directed the petition at Minister for Home Affairs Teo Chee Hean “to deny Julien Blanc a Singapore visa, as well as deny all necessary passes and permits for Blanc and his group, Real Social Dynamics (RSD) to conduct commercial activities and events here.”
Blanc is expected to enter Singapore on November 20.
“It is not only women who are affected,” the petition said.
“Julien's misogynistic 'pick up techniques' directly exploit vulnerable men who buy into rape culture and end up believing that this is an appropriate way to behave.
“Unlike what RSD and their supporters claim, these techniques do not "help" socially awkward men, but instead teach them to engage in harassment and abusive behaviour towards anyone they feel entitled to, while paying no heed to the other party's wishes.
“Do not associate Singapore with a man who chokes women around the world as part of his pick up game.”
Singapore gender equality advocacy group AWARE has also supported the petition on Twitter, saying, “Bad news - infamous "pick up artist" Julien Blanc might be coming to SG! He must be banned!”
Last week, Blanc was able to hold a seminar in Australia before two hotels in Melbourne and Brisbane cancelled the planned seminars and his visa was later revoked by the immigration minister. This was after a petition signed by thousands in Australia called for it.
Brazil’s foreign ministry also said that they would refuse Blanc a visa, after a petition which garnered more than 280,000 signatures in just two days called for his ban.
Similar petitions have also been set up in other parts of the world. The petition in Canada already has nearly 60,000 signatures and the one in the United States has more than 50,000. In the United Kingdom, more than 140,000 people are petitioning for Blanc’s ban. He is expected to visit the UK in February 2015.
In November last year, the Singapore government banned Ashley Madison website from operating in Singapore after a petition with 2,971 signatures demanded for it. The Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) announced that access to the site would be blocked because “it aggressively promotes and facilitates extramarital affairs”.
Social and Family Development Minister Chan Chun Sing had said on his Facebook, “I do not welcome such a website into Singapore. I’m against any company or website that harms marriage. Promoting infidelity undermines trust and commitment between a husband and wife, which are core to marriage.”
