It rains today and it also marks the 16th day anniversary of my cycling fall;…
…..a rat enjoying leftover chicken rice near the dustbin was spooked by my approach. In its haste, it knocked over the plastic food container. The sudden commotion frightened a nearby
cat sleeping on the bridge landing and in its panic, knocked onto my bicycle. I fell between a police signage and a post which has a surveillance camera mounted facing towards the landing area.
This pedestrian bridge connects Kallang to Geylang and is used mainly by PRC students of the nearby private school and foreign construction / sex workers.
Previously I would cycle past this area without noticing the dustbin…attention was on those friendly ladies crossing the bridge towards Geylang. The day after the fall, I noticed the same overfilled dustbin and some chicken rice grains missed out by the rats.
On the 3rd day, a HDB cleaner was sweeping fallen leaves near the path…..I stopped cycling to enquire about the overfilled dustbin. He explained that his cleaning boundary is on the HDB side of the path… the narrow strip of land separating the Kallang / Geylang wards involves several agencies including NParks and LTA. I cut short our conversation as the stench from the dustbin area was too much too bear….someone had vomited the night before; maybe too much alcohol? I resumed cycling , assuming that the cleaner will raise this matter to your town council.
4th day, noticed a few plastic bags torn with food contents spilling out….not the cats as they are fed daily by the HDB residents. Took a photo of the overfilled dustbin, intending to bring to your personal attention during the MPS…did not materialize as I again assume that you will be busy with the celebration of your elevation to Senior Counsel.
8th day, from afar, noticed a push-cart near the dustbin and assumed wrongly that finally the dustbin is being cleared. …actually, an old garung-kuni uncle had stopped to pick up the Chinese-brand beer bottles. Honestly, I would pay this uncle some money for him to use his push cart to clear the trash……but having been replaced by some FT few years back , I don’t really have the money to spare.
It rained on the 9th day and a big Styrofoam box further down the path was filled to its brim. I hesitated to drain the box….what if an NEA officer passing by wrongly assumed that I was the one who threw the box? As dengue is serious matter, I again decided to drop by your MPS the following day……
On the 10th day, noticed 2 policemen putting the signage into the boot of their NPP vehicle and driving out of the HDB carpark before I could catch up with them…..maybe the “outrage-of-modesty” case had been solved without the aid of the surveillance camera footages. But certainly they would have noted the overfilled dustbin and maybe the relevant agency will be notified of the situation. I also assumed that you will be too busy to attend the MPS (gathered from the news that you were in court defending Kong Hee).
Nothing happens over next few days…..i.e. nothing to the dustbin…, however, the grass strip and the trees lining the path were cut and trimmed by NParks contractors during the last 2 days., and 2 NEA officers walked past yesterday without a pause ……
A total of 32 photos were taken, logging the daily status of the dustbin and the above-stated
observations. Please co-ordinate to resolve this issue quickly……otherwise we will bleed while the mosquitoes / rats breed.
