Dear TRS,
I went to Woodlands the other day to buy a prepaid SingTel sim card as I have a friend visiting from overseas and I needed to give him a temporary local phone line to use.
But I was shocked to be scammed by the PRC shop keeper who charged me $18 for the sim card which is supposed to be $8. It was not even a lucky phone number, it was just a normal number.
I have bought this product before several times and I know it's supposed to be $8. Even the packet itself advertises that it's "pay $8, get $10 value".
Frustrated, I left the shop and went to the 7 eleven outside as I know they also sell them. However, the 7 eleven was out of stock.
I also visited several other stores which are supposed to stock the sim card but found that all the shops, close to 10 of them, were all selling at $18.
I went back to the original store and the PRC shop assistant laughed in my face saying that I have no choice but to buy it from them as all of them were selling at $18 and 7 eleven no stock.
Did these shops cooperate to buyout the 7eleven stocks and then mark up the prices ridiculously?
Is this even allowed under the SingTel terms for the shops?
