Dear TRS,

At about 8.40pm yesterday, a Chinese speaking female agent that sounds a lot like a China women knock on my door asking if there are anyone between the age of 40-60 years old or 45-60 years old (I did not pay much attention when she asked me the first time and I am the only 1 at home and I am not within this age group). I reply “no” and walk back to my bedroom.

While in my room I heard her knocking on my neighbours’ door but resume packing my items. But as she kept on speaking non stop it gets more and more annoying to me as the way she speaks CLEARLY SOUNDS LIKE SHE IS TRYING TO MISLEAD MY OLD NEIGHBOUR.

She repeatedly bring out the word “Singapore Government” many times and make it sounds like she is working on behalf of our local Government. Another reason why I assume she is China lady beside her China tone Chinese that is not commonly found in Singaporean Chinese, is that she uses the word “Singapore” infront of Government. For locals, we merely says “Government”.

She claim it is an insurance that is brought by our “Singapore Government” for everyone between the age of 40-60 years old or 45-60 years old. Which I instantly know is NOT TRUE.

She also claim that her company Great Eastern Singapore recently have a very kind and nice rewards program for those interested policy holder. A FREE upgrade where policy holder do not need to pay any money but can enjoy much more better value benefits. All these at the expense of “Singapore Government”. She makes it sounds like our government will be paying for all the expenses and thus we should not try and save the money for our government.

She also said since 1pm today, many of her co workers have been around this estate to promote this nice reward program to residence at my estate, most couples brought 2 sets (for both couple) right away as this is such a great deal that cannot be missed.

At this point I am really pissed and mad at her FALSE CLAIMS and MISLEADING so I stomp out of my house to interrupt their conversation by telling my neighbour that the money is deducted from her CPF account thus it wasn’t free as claimed by that agent. My neighbour asked her if it is true. Instead of replying her question, this agent tries to divert our attention away.

She suddenly claim she stay around here, just a few blocks away from our block thus we can trust her. And now she claim because she is staying at this estate thus she wanted to share this good deal with everyone staying at this estate. Adding that it is best to feed the goodies to people staying here than those staying outside in Chinese saying.

I hurry pointed out that claimed that her company been doing promotion at our estate since 1pm today thus it isn’t what she just claim which is she trying to share the good with people staying near her. My neighbour reply that she needed time to consider and discuss with her family so asked her for her namecard and will contact her if they want to upgrade.

I suddenly have an idea which is taking this agent name and info and report her. But this agent seems to guess my intention thus she claim she will check back again next week thus my neighbour can spend some time considering and she will be back next week to check with them again. As she hurried tried to walk away from us, I asked if she can give me her name card but she reply “I don’t need her service” and hurried down the stairs where most people will usually take the lift instead of stairs.

I talked with my neighbours for abit and pointed that a real agent who want sale will just give away free namecard upon speaking to us. And this lady totally did not want to give any contact and details after I display my unhappiness with her. My neighbour agreed to give me her namecard and contact if she return back next week.

I would like to know if insurance agents or any sale man or contractor have the rights to do door-to-door promotion/sale? If they have such rights, is there a certain time limit say between 9-6pm only?

Can agents / sale man mislead people to believe that there are working on behalf of our government?

Can agent intentionally avoid mentioning that the premium will be deduct via buyer’s CPF or any other payment mode while promoting sales? Example, agent intentionally point out about any deduction of premium payment and kept on claiming it’s free and buyer don’t need to pay any cent from their wallet. After buyer is keen and sign for the upgrade/policy they merely brush off the part about CPF payment to make it appear like they did point out and that since it is written on the paper before buyer signs and if they missed it then it’s their fault?

Are there any site or any open source where we can view terms and conditions of insurance agents? What they can do and cannot do? And also what consumers rights each of us have to protect ourself.

Beside calling the police, are there any ways we can report an agent for abuse?
